January, 2010.  South Carolina African American Historic Commission awarded a "Preserving Our Places" award for the Gullah Learning Center located in the Janie Hamilton School.

2014

The Daufuskie Island Historical Foundation was awarded the ”South Carolina Historic Preservation 2014 Stewardship Award” for ‘preserving historic sites, records, and oral histories of Daufuskie Island’. This prestigious award was conferred by the Governor’s Office, the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, and the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation. Presentation of the award was made by Governor Haley to DIHF Executive Director, Nancy Ludtke, at the South Carolina State Capitol Building on June 11, with proud members of the DIHF board in attendance.
